11 Acre Farm

Forrestdale

Just 25 minutes south of Perth CBD, 11 Acre Farm is unlike a traditional farm. It’s a living landscape where market gardens, farm animals, waterways, wildlife and food all work together.

This is one of the most immersive farm experiences near Perth, with something for almost everyone. You can meet and feed the resident animals, let the kids explore the charming Cubby Lane play village, enjoy a coffee and snack from Cubby Kiosk, or settle in for a paddock-to-plate meal at The Good Paddock.

Meet the farm animals

No visit is complete without heading to the Farmers Yards to meet the animals that help bring the farm to life.

There are friendly donkeys Wayne and Poppy, alpacas, goats, pigs, heritage-breed chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, turkeys and guinea fowl. Keep an eye out for Toby the peacock too, who freely roams around the property and has been known to investigate cafe tables for stray hot chips!

Animal feeding is available for a small additional fee, making this a particularly fun option for younger children.

More than an animal farm

For families, Cubby Kiosk overlooks Cubby Lane, a little village made from marketplace cubbyhouses, climbing frames and play equipment. There are also shaded lawns and picnic areas where you can spend some time relaxing.

Food lovers should make time for The Good Paddock, a farm-to-table restaurant using seasonal produce grown in the market garden just metres away.

And if you want to go deeper into the story behind the farm, the Wander & Feast experience is a fantastic option. The 2.5-hour experience takes you through the market garden and around the farm before finishing with a seasonal shared lunch and drinks at The Good Paddock.

LOCAL TIP: Opening hours and animal experiences can vary, so check the farm’s website before visiting.

Mason's Family Farm

Anketell

For a simple and wholesome taste of farm life, it’s hard to beat Mason’s Family Farm in Perth’s southern suburbs.

Just 30 minutes from Perth CBD, what began as a small tin shed selling farm eggs has grown into a popular farm shop and mini farm experience where you can meet the animals for free and stock up on fresh local produce.

Meet the animals

There are plenty of friendly farmyard residents to say hello to, including goats, donkeys, cows and chickens. If you’re lucky, you might even catch feeding time.

Hand-feeding the goats is a highlight for many children, while the chicken coop offers a fun opportunity to see where the farm’s famous eggs come from.

It’s a lovely introduction to farm life for little ones - and a chance to show them that food doesn’t simply appear on supermarket shelves!

Shop for farm fresh produce

The farm shop is another big reason to visit. Mason’s free-range eggs are a speciality, with the different sizes named after members of the family, and you can even pick up boxes of double-yolkers.

You’ll also find seasonal fruit and vegetables, honey, homemade cookies, jams, cheeses and other WA-made products.

There’s a coffee van on site, plus bacon and egg rolls on weekends, cold drinks and fairy bread for the kids. A giant sandpit with diggers and plenty of open space gives little ones somewhere to burn off some energy too.

LOCAL TIP: Weekends can get busy, so visit during the week if you’d prefer a quieter experience.

Keller's Farm

Swan Valley

Tucked away in the Swan Valley, Keller’s Farm is part farmers market, part bakery, part farmyard and a wonderfully relaxed place to spend a weekend morning.

Just around 30 minutes from Perth CBD, this family-run farm opens its little street market to the public on weekends, selling an impressive range of fresh and homemade produce.

Shop, eat and meet the animals

You’ll find seasonal fruit and vegetables, free-range eggs, honey, jams, quince paste, muesli and dehydrated fruit, alongside a tempting selection of freshly baked goods.

Philipp, originally from Switzerland, makes Swiss Zopf and the farm’s famous Swiss chocolate breadstick, while Marija bakes a range of sourdough breads using a natural starter.

Depending on the season, you might also find citrus, figs, potatoes, garlic and leafy greens grown on the farm or sourced locally.

But this isn’t simply somewhere to shop.

Chickens roam around the gardens, while pigs, cows, sheep and goats add to the country atmosphere. You can even feed some of the farm animals while you’re there.

Grab a coffee and something delicious to eat, then find a shady spot in the quirky garden and enjoy the relaxed surroundings. There may even be live music playing.

LOCAL TIP: Keller’s is an active working farm and the popular Farm Shop can sell out of some items, so getting there early is a good idea.

Perth City Farm

East Perth

You don’t even need to leave the city to experience a little farm life. Perth City Farm is a half-hectare urban farm that has been creating opportunities for community connection and sustainable living for decades.

While it feels very different from a traditional rural farm, it’s a great place to learn about growing food and sustainable living right in the heart of Perth.

Explore the urban farm

During the week, you can wander through the market garden and fruit tree grove, see the frog bog and visit the chickens.

It’s a small but fascinating urban oasis that demonstrates how food can be grown and biodiversity encouraged even in a city environment.

While you’re here, stop by Be Free for coffee, all-day brunch, smoothies, fresh cold-pressed juices and ready-made grab-and-go meals. With a focus on local, organic, wholesome and sustainable produce, it’s a great spot to grab something delicious before or after exploring the farm.

Visit the weekend farmers market

The real highlight for many visitors is the Saturday Farmers Market, when City Farm comes alive with local growers and producers for Perth’s best market for consumers passionate about ethical and sustainable produce.

As well as produce grown at City Farm, you’ll find fruit and vegetables, meat, seafood, eggs, honey, bread, pantry products and other locally made goods.

It’s a great option if you’re more interested in the food and farming side of the experience than animal encounters - and an easy way to support local growers while filling your shopping bag.

LOCAL TIP: Make a Saturday morning of it and visit the farmers market before exploring the farm itself.

Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm

Henley Brook

If getting up close with farm animals is your main priority, Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm is one of the most comprehensive family-friendly farm experiences near Perth.

Located in Henley Brook, around 30 minutes from Perth CBD, the farm offers hands-on animal encounters in an all-weather setting.

Get up close with the animals

There are plenty of friendly farmyard favourites to meet, along with kangaroos, emus and other animals.

Children can bottle-feed baby animals and enjoy bucket feeding, while the farm’s range of activities means there’s plenty to keep them occupied between animal encounters.

Entry includes the animal interactions as well as tractor/train rides, a bouncy castle, playground and merry-go-round rides.

A family-friendly day out

There are undercover and outdoor picnic areas, free BBQ facilities and a cafe on site, making it easy to spend several hours here.

The farm is also set up for prams and wheelchair access, with accessible pathways around the property.

It’s particularly popular for family days out, birthday parties, school excursions and visiting grandparents looking for something fun to do with the grandkids.

LOCAL TIP: Because there are so many activities included in the entry price, this is one of the better options if you’re looking for a farm experience where you can easily spend most of the day.

Willow Springs Orchard

Bedfordale

Willow Springs Orchard is technically just beyond our 30-minute radius, at around 40 minutes from Perth CBD, but it’s too good a farm experience to leave off the list.

Set in the Perth Hills, this family-run orchard offers a combination of seasonal fruit picking, farm animals, fresh produce and plenty of space for kids to play.

Pick your own seasonal fruit

Fruit picking is seasonal, so what’s available depends on the time of year. The orchard has offered persimmons and kiwifruit, alongside a rotating selection of other seasonal crops including lychees, mangoes, dragonfruit, chestnuts, mandarins, custard apples, pomegranates and longans.

When we visited for kiwifruit picking in July - read our article on winter fruit picking here - you simply paid for what you picked by weight, with buckets provided. We wandered between the orchard rows, searching for the perfect kiwis hidden on the vines. It’s a great activity to support local growers and enjoy a hands-on experience that feels a world away from the city.

There’s more than fruit picking

Kids can meet the resident goats, including an adorable pygmy goat, and burn off some energy in the large enclosed playground overlooking the lake.

There’s also a cute coffee van serving barista-made coffee, hot chocolate and sweet treats, while the farm shop stocks seasonal fruit and vegetables, fresh eggs, honey and preserves.

It makes for an easy family morning - and a great excuse to visit the Perth Hills when the fruit is in season.

LOCAL TIP: Fruit availability changes throughout the year, so check what’s currently in season and book your session via their Facebook page before making the trip.
