The Best French Toast in Perth

A very popular breakfast choice, there’s no shortage of French Toast choices available across the city. From classic to innovative creations, these French toast dishes are sure to satisfy your cravings and indulge all your foodie dreams!

Holly Rayes

Bassendean

Holly Rayes is a cute neighbourhood café in leafy Bassendean, serving great coffee and a lovely all-day brunch menu. It’s also a particularly family-friendly spot, with an indoor playroom packed with pretend kitchens, baby toys, books, colouring and more - perfect for keeping little ones entertained while you enjoy your coffee and brunch. Their Crème French Toast certainly makes an impressive arrival at the table, topped with crème pâtissière, mixed berries, coulis, crumble, coconut flakes and butter honey maple. The combination of textures and flavours was delicious, although we found there was perhaps a little too much custard for our liking. And if you’re after a bargain, their $6 Eggs on Toast deal currently running on Wednesdays is hard to beat!

Lontara

Rottnest Island

Worth the ferry ride, Lontara at Samphire Rottnest is proof that a great French toast is worth crossing the water for. Set within the beautiful open dining room at Samphire, with sunrise views over Thomson Bay, it’s a gorgeous spot to ease into the day before you hop on a bike and explore the island. Their Warm Brioche French Toast comes with a coconut yoghurt whip, fresh strawberries and palm sugar syrup. It sits alongside a solid all-round breakfast menu, from a Samphire Benedict to a Surfers Breakfast for the more savoury-minded, plus freshly squeezed orange juice, cold pressed juices and great coffee to wash it all down. Breakfast isn’t just for hotel guests either - it’s open to the public daily from 7am to 10am, so Rotto day-trippers can drop in too.

Hylin

West Leederville

This cute neighbourhood cafe in West Leederville, has a casual and funky vibe, with beautiful shady outdoor seating, comfy indoor tables, great coffee and mouth-watering eats. Their French Toast is one you really need to try!! It is seasonal - so toppings may vary throughout the year, but we highly recommend the Cinnamon Doughnut French Toast served with two thick slices of toasted brioche toast, sticky toffee sauce, fresh strawberries, whipped cream and coconut Biscoff crumb. It’s a deliciously decadent brunch option!

Gemini Cafe

Perth CBD

Quirky. Creative. Delicious - all we can say is Wow! Having eyed off Gemini Cafe on St Georges Terrace, in the Perth CBD for some time, we were excited to finally try some of their delicious creations. With a creative take on French Toast that features an iced chocolate teddy bear, crispy bacon, seasonal fruit, caramalised banana, nutella, fairy floss and ice cream you’ll be on a sugar high for days. But actually, it was a really delicious version that we thoroughly enjoyed. Plus this cafe is serving up some amazing savoury lunch items and creative drinks like the affogato bubble bathtub, avolatte (yes, a latte in an avocado), or beetroot latte served in an edible cup!

Little Donkey Corner

Tuart Hill

Nestled in the suburban Tuart Hill in northern Perth, Little Donkey Corner is a must-visit spot for those seeking a cosy, laid-back atmosphere and mouth-watering food. Their French toast creation is a modern take on the classic. Featuring two slices of crispy fried bread served in a shallow pool of taro custard and topped with milk-crumbs, berry compote and pistachios. It’s finished off with a whimsical topping of fairy floss. While this dish is undeniably sweet and indulgent, the flavours are perfectly balanced, creating a dish that won’t leave you with a sugar overload. It’s a fantastic creative twist on a brunch classic.

Roasting Warehouse

South Fremantle

South Freo is known for its charm, beautiful beaches and scenic walks, and one of our favourite cafés along South Terrace is Roasting Warehouse. With its industrial-chic feel, plenty of alfresco seating and delicious brunch menu, it’s a great spot to settle in for a leisurely breakfast or brunch. Keep an eye on their socials for menu updates, as they often feature a seasonal French Toast. When we visited, it was a Brûlée Brioche French Toast topped with toasted oats, blueberry cream cheese, caramelised banana, milk crumb, strawberries and Persian fairy floss. The fluffy brioche was beautifully caramelised on the outside while remaining soft and pillowy inside, and we loved the added texture from the toasted oats. If you’re brunching with a friend, we’d also highly recommend ordering their Turkish Eggs to share - the perfect combo of one savoury and one sweet dish.

Servo

Leederville

Located in Leederville, Servo is a great spot for a weekend breakfast, with a leafy restaurant and spacious yard bar where you can dine alfresco - and dogs are welcome too! Breakfast is served Saturday and Sunday from 8am-11.30am, with their French Toast being a standout. Their current version features fluffy shokupan French Toast with yuzu marmalade, dollop cream and fresh strawberries. We tried a French Toast dish with roasted peaches, macadamia, whipped ricotta and burnt honey - YUM!! If you’re looking to make breakfast a little more indulgent, Servo also offers their Servo Sunrise bottomless brunch, with a choice of breakfast main, share plates and 90 minutes of free-flowing cocktails, juices and mocktails.

Chubby Boy

Inglewood

Now, whilst this isn’t officially French Toast, we reckon that Shokupan is pretty close and just as moreish. You can find this unique Japanese traditional toast in the pumping Inglewood restaurant strip of Perth at Chubby Boy, a hole-in-the-wall cafe serving up epic slabs of thick and light Shokupan slathered in luscious toppings. With a menu full of delicious sweet and savoury toast options, the Creme Brûlée and Bacon Shokupan was our favourite, with its salty and sweet flavours. If you live in Perth, Chubby Boy is worth a visit for its gorgeous aesthetic and LEGIT Japanese milk bread.
